The Cannes-winning director of ‘The Class’ returns to the role of education in young peoples’ lives in this thought provoking drama.
Antoine (Matthieu Lucci) attends a summer workshop just outside Marseilles. A group of young people have been selected to write a crime thriller, with the help of famous novelist Olivia (Marina Foïs). The creative process soon recalls the area’s industrial past, nostalgia that Antoine feels alienated from. Cantet’s film, co-written with ‘120 BPM’ director Robin Campillo, is an emotionally engaging examination of social, cultural and generational divides.
★★★★ "Demonstrates that debate, the exchange of ideas, can be as thrilling as any ramped up action flick" - Wendy Ide, The Observer
