Ian McEwan follows 'On Chesil Beach' with another adaptation of one of his own books. It tells the story of a high court judge brilliantly played by Emma Thompson ('Late Night') whose attempts to balance her chaotic personal life with a case involving a young hospital patient (Fionn Whitehead) who refuses a blood transfusion because he is a Jehovah’s Witness.
Richard Eyre’s heartfelt film explores the grey area in the relationship between personal choice and the law.
