During a screening of 'The Piano', playwright Jacques (Pierre Deladonchamps) picks up Arthur (Vincent Lacoste, last seen in Amanda), but life quickly becomes more complex, with Arthur slipping away from his girlfriend and Jacques receiving some devastating health news. Despite this, this tale of star-crossed lovers is a charming investigation in what draws people together that has novelistic insight into a broad cast of Paris locals.
Set in 1993, this meeting of two men – one discovering his identity, the other cynically pained by his – unfolds beautifully. Fans of Before Sunrise will recognise director Christophe Honoré’s (Man at Bath, Beloved) skill at evoking a lifetime of love in a short affair.
