Now showing as part of our curated Hirokazu Kore-eda season to celebrate the release of his new film 'The Truth', 'Shoplifters' won the 2018 Palme d’Or and was nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
A young girl is found freezing in an alleyway at the beginning of brilliant Japanese director Koreeda Hirokazu’s (‘Like Father, Like Son’, ‘I Wish’) 'Shoplifters'. Osamu takes her home and she soon becomes a part of the extended family. But who are they all and what kind of world have they made for themselves? Like his previous films, Koreeda explores the very notion of family, one in which a stranger might be a more suitable parent than a biological mother of father.
