Christoph Blanc explores the difficulties of sibling responsibility in his low-key but involving family drama.
With both their parents now dead, Jack, Lisa and Mathis find themselves at the mercy of a court, who rule that Jack, now considered an adult, can be recognised ats the legal guardian. Weighed down with the responsibility of looking after a wayward 17-year-old sister and 10-year-old brother, Jack increasingly finds parenting a challenge. More so when Lisa decides to go it alone. Featuring impressive performances by its juvenile leads, Blanc’s drama highlights the cracks in our system that society’s most vulnerable can fall into. At the same time, it highlights the bonds that emerge for those confronted by grief and the light that people draw from within in order to cope with it.
