During the German occupation of Paris in 1942, young unemployed Algerian named Younes earns his living as a black-marketeer. Arrested by the French police, he is given an ultimatum: either face an indefinite time in prison or become a spy for Nazi intelligence at the local Mosque which is suspected of sheltering Resistance fighters and Jewish fugitives. As Younes goes deep undercover at the Mosque, he is drawn into a dangerous and morally complex situation - and must confront a terrible dilemma between serving his own best interests or putting himself in mortal danger to save the lives of innocent people.
With a superb turn by A Prophet’s Tahar Rahim, Ismaël Ferroukhi’s drama is a compelling and contemplative depiction of political unrest.
