Soldier and poet Cyrano de Bergerac (Gérard Depardieu) is in love with Roxanne, but too ashamed of his appearance to let her know. When the handsome Christian too falls for Roxanne, Cyrano agrees to help him woo her through love-letters under Christian's name.
