Recalling the female coming-of-age horror drama ‘Ginger Snaps’, Lisa Brühlmann’s film offers a unique perspective on the transformation of a young girl’s body and mind.
15-year-old Mia is facing an overwhelming transformation which calls her entire existence into question. Her body is changing radically, and despite desperate attempts to halt the process, she is soon forced to accept that nature holds all the power. But her desire for normalcy, the pressure to ‘fit in’, causes her pause for thought.
This is smart, unsettling body horror at its best.
