Agnès Varda focuses on the intertwined lives of two women brought together during the struggle of the women's movement in 1970s France. This subject that remains all too familiar with Varda who was personally involved with the movement.
Spanning more than a decade, it traces the ups and downs -abortion, heartbreak, marriage, motherhood - of two friends, Pauline and Suzanne. Even as their lives radically diverge, they remain steadfastly devoted to one another while finding ways to empower other women: one as a traveling feminist folk singer, the other as a reproductive rights activist.
This tender and intimate Varda's 1977 film celebrates the ability of women to lift one another up.
