Question: 'Is cinema a language about to get lost, an art about to die?' This fascinating documentary features interviews with of some of cinemas greatest filmmakers, all set in Room 666 at the Hotel Martinez, Cannes Film Festival, 1982. Wim Wenders invited a group of filmmakers to discuss the future of film in front of a video camera, in an empty hotel room. The fifteen directors who responded to the invitation present a document of attitudes towards cinema at a moment when the medium's power was seen to decline. Though contemporary cinemas's anxieties face different dilemmas, this is an un-missable portrait of cinema history. Interviewees brought into the debate include Steven Spielberg, a hilarious Jean-Luc Godard, Michelangelo Antonioni, Werner Herzog (together with!) Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Chantel Akerman, and Monte Hellman.
