In ‘Dogman’ director Matteo Garrone's black comedy, he turns his attention to the parlous state of the media in Italy.
In this satire on the superficiality of celebrity, Aniello Arena plays Luciano - a Neapolitan fishmonger who dreams of his 15 minutes of fame. After an encounter with a former Big Brother star, Luciano gradually loses the ability to distinguish between real life and the fictional persona of a reality TV star. It’s a smart takedown of celebrity culture and a ribald comedy in its own right.
★★★★ "The perils of appearing on reality television are well-rehearsed by now, but Matteo Garrone must be the first filmmaker to address the perils of not appearing on it" - Robbie Collin, The Telegraph
