'I Am Love', directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring Tilda Swinton, is a dreamy, languorous film - exquisitely shot, and beautifully paced and conceived.
Moving through the cultivated world of a wealthy and distinguished industrial family, the film is about ritual and order centring on a massive Milanese mansion. Depicting a world on the cusp of change, the magnificent old order struggles to hold its place against the rowdy new challengers. Sexual and class politics play a key role as wonderfully controlled moments of passion suddenly erupt.
Featuring a cast headed by Tilda Swinton speaking Italian and Russian, this is a stunningly realised film in which tradition and modernity collide with tragic consequences.
★★★★★ "Even by Swinton’s standards, it’s a sensational performance" - Tim Robey, The Telegraph
