Nominated for the Best Documentary BAFTA in 2015, 'Finding Vivian Maier' tells the story of a mysterious nanny, who took over 100,000 photographs that were stored in lockers and discovered decades later. Now considered among the 20th century's greatest photographers, Maier's life and art are revealed through previously unseen photographs, films and interviews with dozens who thought they knew her.
John Maloof has spent years reconstructing the archive of Maier's work and his film (co-directed with Charlie Siskel) is a beautiful homage to a gifted artist.
✮✮✮✮ "Fascinating study of a brilliant undiscovered talent" - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
"I watched this in a theatre in Paris and what struck me was how an artist could take such important and beautiful photos, but keep them to herself for all those years. That is almost intolerable for someone who calls himself or herself an artist. It's a challenging concept. No filmmaker could imagine shooting films and never seeing the result."
