Part of Festival Fever, this month on Curzon12.
Atom Egoyan's typically complex and mischievous new film 'Guest of Honour' is now showing in the 'Thrill' section at this year's London Film Festival featuring David Thewlis on top form as a food inspector. It harks back to the blackly comic and emotive family dramas of his early career, including 'The Adjuster' and 'Family Viewing', for which the Canadian auteur won Best Canadian Feature Film at the Toronto Film Festival.
A story of mixed and found identities set in a nursing home, a condominium and a telephone sex establishment. Using a collection of video images - television, pornography, home movies and surveillance - Family Viewing observes the breakdown and restoration of a dislocated family. Darkly humorous and unpredictable, the film is a complex journey into the world of brutality and sentiment.
