Assessment frames a socially aware story with suspense and dark use of subtexts that include class, identity and gender. Though empathetic, Gutteridge's stark, observational eye is at times reminiscent of the shared cameras in CCTV and social media. Set in and around Richmond Park, a girl's (Tahirah Sharif) developing adolescent shape is a problem at a top London ballet school. A local schoolboy (Joe Cole) is struggling with his exams. Their chance encounter leads him on a mission to where the analysis of adults is all that counts. Assessment won the Jury Prize at Film London Bobs Awards hosted at BAFTA, premiered at BFI London Film Festival and was short listed for BAFTA nomination. Intercom and Assessment have been selected by British Council Film to be represented abroad.
