Writer-director-actress Desiree Akhavan ('The Miseducation of Cameron Post') delivers an ironic, hipster date movie with her feature debut 'Appropriate Behaviour'.
Shirin (Akhavan) wants, above all else, to be the ideal Persian daughter. Well, perhaps not above being a politically correct bisexual, or a hip young New Yorker for that matter. And the realisation that she might not achieve all three, along with her other personal ambitions, causes fissures in her life and personal relationships; particularly now that her girlfriend Maxine has moved out and is looking to date other people.
Akhavan's comedy recalls the indie US films of the early nineties, with its shooting from the hip approach and easy way with character and dialogue.
