Teenage Kicks

Celebrating two bold additions to the pantheon of all-time great teen movies opening this month in our cinemas - Jonah Hill's 'Mid90s' and Bo Burnham's 'Eighth Grade', - we've picked our favourite coming-of-age movies to stream. 'The Diary of a Teenage Girl', a quirky adaptation of Phoebe Gloeckner's graphic novel from the director of 'Can Your Ever Forgive Me', makes a great first stopping point after Burnham's authentic Sundance hit, while the Oscar-nominated documentary ‘Minding the Gap’ is a wonderful factual companion piece to Jonah Hill’s nostalgia-drenched directorial debut. In Barry Jenkins Oscar Best Picture-winner 'Moonlight', a black teen negotiates his identity and sexuality in 1980s Miami, while gentrification in Brooklyn New York threatens the budding friendship of two middle-school chums in Ira Sachs’ 'Little Men'. And hailed a ‘Mexican riff on Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’, the charming ‘Güeros’ is a coming-of-age comedy with a dash of Linklater and Jim Jarmusch.
